Purpose:
The School Site Council (SSC) is a decision-making body composed of parents, students, teachers, administrators, and other school staff. Its primary role is to develop, review, and approve the School Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA) and ensure that school resources are used effectively to support student success.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and Approve the SPSA: Review school data, identify needs, and set measurable goals aligned with district priorities.
Monitor Implementation: Regularly review progress toward goals and make necessary adjustments to strategies or expenditures.
Budget Oversight: Recommend and approve how categorical funds (such as Title I) are allocated to support student learning.
Promote Stakeholder Engagement: Provide a platform for all voices—parents, staff, and students—to participate in school decision-making.
Ensure Accountability: Evaluate the effectiveness of programs and report outcomes to the school community.
Membership:
SSC members are elected by their peers and typically include:
Principal (or designee)
Classroom teachers
Other school staff
Parents/community members
Secondary schools also include student representatives
Meetings:
Held regularly throughout the school year (typically monthly or quarterly)
Open to the public—community members are encouraged to attend and provide input
Agendas and minutes are posted in advance to ensure transparency
Goal:
The SSC’s ultimate goal is to ensure that all students have equitable access to a high-quality education and the necessary supports to achieve academic success.
