ACS WASC Overview – Accrediting Commission for Schools

The purpose and goals of the Accrediting Commission for Schools, Western Association of 
Schools and Colleges (WASC) include:

• Fostering excellence in education by encouraging school improvement through a process of continuing evaluation. 
• Recognizing schools that meet an acceptable level of quality based on established criteria. 
  
  
• Supporting schools in engaging in a rigorous self-evaluation and peer review process to enhance student learning. 
• Promoting continuous improvement by addressing identified strengths and limitations of schools. 
• Ensuring high quality learning opportunities for all students through a commitment to equity, inclusion, and access to rigorous learning. 

Tese goals are designed to help schools create a clear vision of what they want for their students and to ensure that they are continuously improving their educational practices.
