100% Attendance is the Goal for 2023-2024!!

Daily school attendance is one of the most powerful ways you can prepare your child for success—both in school and in life. When you make school attendance a priority, you help your child earn better grades, develop healthy life habits, avoid dangerous behavior, engage with available resources/supports, and have a better chance of graduating from high school being college & career ready.

San Pedro HS recognizes attendance achievement on a regular basis. We have attendance incentive activities and raffles which take place throughout the school year. Please reference the Attendance Achievement Chart for benchmarks by date. Meeting these benchmarks will ensure eligibility for activities & raffles.

It is important that your child is present at school every day and on time.  Here are some suggestions for parents/guardians/caregivers to establish positive attendance habits:

  • Create morning and evening routines
  • Schedule all appointments for your child during non-school hours
  • Post school calendars and schedules in a visible place
  • Plan family vacations/activities on non-school days only
  •      Help your child develop a positive attitude toward school by encouraging him/her to participate in school activities
  •      Set up and monitor your Parent Portal account
  •     Communicate with your child’s teachers and academic counselor on a regular basis
  •     Reach out to Ms. Lamperelli, PSA Counselor, if you need support with your child's daily school attendance

(see files below for additional resources and information)

PSA services are intended to improve daily attendance rates with the goal of increasing student achievement and decreasing dropout rates. These goals are in direct alignment with API, AYP and WASC benchmarks.

PSA Counselors provide intervention for students with irregular school attendance. We develop plans and strategies to maximize in-seat attendance and reduce the school dropout rate. PSA Counselors work to remove the barriers to school success for those students who do not respond positively to instructional programs due to emotional, familial, and other environmental impediments. Our training and educational backgrounds prepare us to assess and intervene with these multi-faceted issues. PSA Counselors hold a PPS Credential and are master’s level social workers, psychologists, or marriage and family counselors. We collaborate with schools, communities, and families to empower students and motivate them to stay in school. PSA interventions include: home, visits, conferences with students and parents, linkage with school and community resources, referrals to alternative education programs, and more.
