Modernization Update

This modernization of San Pedro High School is bringing new high-performance learning opportunities in state-of-the-art classrooms, culinary arts, science labs and specialized spaces for band, video-media, ceramics, photo and many more programs. A new administrative wing and dining services are also included. Seismic retrofit and major modernization of historic buildings will occur in many of the buildings that will remain. When completed, the campus will also feature a new drop-off/main entrance, outdoor learning spaces, new parking lots, tennis courts and sustainable landscaping.
Spring 2025 Updates:
We’re excited to share the latest progress on the modernization of San Pedro High School! Our commitment to providing a dynamic, state-of-the-art learning environment continues to take shape.
Phases 1 and 2 of the project have been successfully completed, with Building A and Building B now fully updated. These buildings house key spaces, including the main offices, counseling services, dining services, the culinary arts suite, digital imaging center, and our new music and band centers. Students and staff are already enjoying the upgraded facilities, designed to enhance creativity, learning, and collaboration.
Spring 2026, the remodeled Building 3 (the English Building) will open and the science building will be vacated to make way for the next construction phase. In the interim, teachers will be relocated to Building 3 (the former English building), temporary housing spaces. While this requires some adjustments, we’re committed to ensuring that learning remains uninterrupted during this transition.
Additionally, our historic gymnasium is being renovated as part of the modernization plan. Work will continue through the winter of 2025 to be reopened Spring of 2026. While this may temporarily affect physical education and athletic activities, we look forward to unveiling the upgraded gym, which will provide even more opportunities for our students in the future.
It’s also important to note that during the modernization process, all magnet programs will continue to operate at the Olguin campus for the 2025-2026 school year. We ensure a smooth experience for all students as they continue their studies in a comfortable, fully equipped space.
Palm Tree Removal

As part of the structural rehabilitation project, the removal of three palm trees located in front of Building 1 is required to allow safe and unobstructed progress of the construction work.

During the life of this project, we have had a great deal of public scrutiny about removing trees on flagship campus.  Modernization is requesting to cut 3 palm trees located next to the old administration building / historical court.  (See attached)

“(3) palm trees are impacting the emergency structural rehabilitation construction progress for Building 1. The trees needing to be removed are tree #98 and #99, #100 per attached tree inventory.”

We sincerely thank the staff for their continued understanding and flexibility throughout the various phases of this project.
